May is Mental Health Awareness Month. This poem is about Seasonal Affective Disorder, and the beauty of being reborn in the spring.
The magnolia said to the evergreen tree What is it like to keep all your leaves? To remain on the branch in the frost and the chill In dark winter months that threaten to kill. To stand tall in the storms That come as they please, With frost and ice invading your tree. And the evergreen said to the magnolia How does it feel to be reborn each season? To worship the sun, to recreate Eden To inspire with awe from the beauty of your vibrant colours Filling the earth with mystery and wonder And even when the cold front creeps in, And your petals return to the ground once again Your roots will remain, in the earth you’ll exist Reminding us all of the hope That beauty persists.
